Ya estamos de vuelta. Como os prometimos la última vez, hoy os vamos a dar unas cuantas ideas de cosas que hacer en Nueva York… TOTALMENTE GRATIS.

Central park- Plaza Hotel

Here we are, back again. As we promised the last time, today we are going to give you some ideas about things to do in New York… TOTALLY FREE.

Primero están las típicas cosas que hay que ver si o si, y que no hay que gastarse nada. Aunque ya se sepa que hay ciertas cosas que uno no se puede perder, os intentaremos dar algún consejo para aprovechar al máximo el tiempo. 

Times Square

Por supuesto, la famosa Times Square. Os recomiendo que empecéis por la salida de metro Central Park, hacia el hotel Plaza. Desde ahí recorrer la Quinta Avenida para así poder ver las grandes y famosas tiendas, como puede ser el Apple Store, FAO Schwarz (la juguetería gigante con el BIG Piano), Tiffany’s, NBA store, Abercrombie, y muchas más. También pasaréis por la catedral de San patricio. 

Después, lo mejor es desviarse un poco hacia el Rockefeller center (pasando también por la tienda de Lego). Ya se va llegando a Times Square.

Una vez en Times Square solo hay que dejarse envolver por todas las luces, las pantallas, el tráfico…Es simplemente impresionante. También en los alrededores se encuentra el M&M store. 

First there are the typical things you have to see yes o yes, where you don’t have to spend anything. Although you know there are some things you can’t miss, we wanted yo give you some advice so you don’t loose a minute. 

FAO Schwarz

Of course you have to see the famous Times Square. We Recommend to start at Central Park subway exit, towards the Plaza hotel. 
From there you can walk along the 5th Avenue, and you can see the big and famous shops, as the Apple Store, FAO Schwarz (the huge toy store with the famous BIG Piano), Tiffany’s, NBA store, Abercrombie, and many more. You can also visit Saint Patrick Cathedral.

After that, the best is to get a bit away from your path, towards Rockefeller Center (also going by the Lego shop). You’ll be getting closer to Times Square. 

Once you’re there, you only have to let yourself get involved in all the lights, screens, traffic…It’s simply amazing. Around there you can also find the M&M shop.

Otra zona que hay que ver es la zona del World Trade Center. En torno a esa zona lo que hay que ver sin falta es el 9/11 memorial, el memorial al 11s. También hay un museo en honor a las víctimas, pero eso es de pago. Después nos encontramos también con Wall Street, y desde ahí, a un paseo, está el Puente de Brooklyn, y si aun hay tiempo, os recomendamos cruzarlo hasta la otra orilla y relajaros después del paseo en el parque DUMBO, desde donde se ve el skyline de Manhattan. 

9/11- Memorial- 11S

An other place you have to see is the World Trade Center. Around this zone what you can’t miss is the 9/11 Memorial. There’s also a museum to honor the victims, but you have to pay to get in. After, you can also find Wall Street, and from there, walking just a bit, you can get to Brooklyn Bridge, and if you still have time, we recommend you to cross over to the other side,  and relax from the walk in the DUMBO park, where you can see Manhattans skyline.

Un evento que no vale ni un dollar es ver una misa gospel. Lo primero es decir que no esperéis que se tiren todo el rato cantando. También hablan bastante tiempo, pero vale la pena ir y ver como el coro canta y todos los fieles se unen tanto a cantar como a bailar, incluso a dar saltos (podéis verlo en el vídeo de a continuación). Nosotras fuimos a Antioch Baptist Church, que es cada domingo a las 11:00. Suelen durar bastante, pero si os ponéis detrás podéis salir sin interrumpir cuando queráis. Es una experiencia diferente, y además aprovechar para conocer Harlem es interesante.

An event that doesn’t cost a dollar, es a gospel mass. The first thing you need to know is that it’s not like in the movies, they’re not singing all the time. There were also a few moments where they only talked, but it’s worth seeing all the devoted getting together to sing and dance, sometimes they even start jumping (you can see it in the video below). We went to the Antioch Baptist Church, which is every Sunday at 11:00. They take quite a long time, but if you stay at the back you can leave whenever you want. It’s a different experience and you can also have a look around Harlem. 

MOMA, el museo de arte moderno, es gratis todos los viernes desde las 4 hasta el cierre, a las 8. Nosotras no llegamos a ir, aunque estaba en nuestros planes, pero tuvimos un pequeño incidente (perdimos a una del grupo por el metro y al final no nos dio tiempo). Incluso a los que no os guste demasiado el arte, es un museo muy emblemático y famoso, y ya que es gratis, ¿porqué no aprovechar? Te ahorrarás entre 20 y 25$

MOMA, the museum o modern art, is free on Fridays from 16:00 to 20:00. We weren’t able to go, although it was in our plans, because we had a little incidents (we lost a member of the group in the subway so we didn’t have time). Even if you don’t like art too much, it’s a very emblematic and famous museum, and as it’s free, why not take advantage? You’ll save 20-25$ 

Ellis Island/ Isla Ellis

Hay también un crucero gratuito que va a Staten Island, totalmente gratis. Desde este se ve bastante bien la estatua de la libertad. Además de la estatua, se ve bien la isla de Ellis y el skyline de Manhattan.

There is also a free ferry that goes to Staten Island, totally free. From here you can see the Statue of Liberty quite well. You will also be able to see Ellis Island and Manhattans skyline.

Además de estas, por supuesto tenéis que ir a sitios como Central Park, China Town, Little Italy…pero esas no tiene mucho truco, solo id, y disfrutad.

Apart from there, of course you have to go to places such as Central Park, China Town, Little Italy…but this don't have any hidden trick, just go and enjoy. 

Así que… ¿A que viéndolo así Nueva York es una posibilidad asequible? Solo hay que saber como organizarse y como moverse. Normalmente la gente no tiene tiempo de investigar tanto, o no tienen ganas. Por eso nosotras lo hacemos por vosotros, porque nos apasionan los viajes y le podemos llegar a dedicar horas y horas de investigar.

So…Isn’t New York a bit more affordable looking at it this way? You only need to know how to get organized and how to move. Normally people don’t have time o don’t feel like investigating so much. That’s why we do it for you, because we love traveling and we can dedicate hours and hours to investigate.

Cosas diferentes que hacer en NEW YORK y no arruinarse en el intento.

¡Hola una vez más! Hoy os queremos contar algunas cosas de nuestro viaje a Nueva York. 

Creemos que es demasiado para contarlo en un solo post, así que hoy nos centraremos en las cosas que nos os podéis perder una vez ahí, y que seguro que pueden salir más baratas de lo que os esperáis.

Hello once again! Today we want to tell you some things about our trip to New York. 

We think that it`s too much information to tell you in one post, so we will focus on the things you can`t miss and that will certainly be cheaper than you expect. 

No os vamos a aburrir contando lo que ya sabemos todos: que debemos ver Times Square, La Estatua de la Libertad, la Quinta Avenida, Central Park, Empire State... Porque eso es algo que puede aparecer en cualquier guía. 

Solo os diremos respecto a estos, que no os dejéis timar. No compréis tickets a gente que espera en las bocas del metro, en la calle...comprad en el sitio oficial, en las taquillas. A nosotras nos llegaron a intentar colar que la isla de la estatua de la libertad estaba cerrada, para que no fuéramos al sitio oficial (pudimos descubrir que era mentira, afortunadamente, antes de dejarnos timar).

Y si tenéis que elegir entre subir al Empire State o a Top of the Rock, os diremos que el primero está rodeado por vallas, y el segundo es abierto. El precio es parecido así que es decisión vuestra si queréis subir al mítico Empire State, o ver el mítico Empire State sumergido en el skyline de Manhattan.

Aquí os mostraremos qué merece la pena ver y que quizás no os plantearíais por no conocer el precio.

We are not going to bore you telling you stuff everyone already knows: that you must see Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Fifth Avenue, Central Park, Empire State... Because it's something you can find in any tour guide.

About those, we will just tell you not to be fooled. Don't buy tickets from people waiting out of the subway, in the street... buy then in the official desks. We were even told once that the Statue of Liberty Island was closed, so that we would buy the tickets from them instead of the official ones (we realized it wasn't true before being fooled)

And if you have to choose between going up to the Empire State or to top of the Rock, we can just say that the first one is covered with a fence, and the second one is open. the price is more or less the same, so it's up to you wether you want to go up to the famous Empire State, or see the famous Empire State between the skyline of Manhattan. 

Here we will show you what is worth seeing and that you maybe haven't thought on doing because of not knowing the price. 

1. Museo Americano de Historia Natural:

Se trata del famoso museo de la película Noche en el Museo. Aparte de su atractivo por ese motivo, es un museo que merece la pena. Es muy entretenido, fácil de ver, con escenas totalmente realistas, decenas de salas con distintas temáticas, y el esqueleto real de Tyranosaurus Rex más completo y más grande del mundo.

¿Lo mejor de todo? Solo te "sugieren" el precio. Eso significa que, aunque te indiquen cual sería el precio adecuado, puedes pagar lo que tu consideres, empezando desde 1$. Es una oportunidad que no hay que dejar pasar.

1.American Museum of Natural History:

It's the famous museum from the movie Night at the Museum. 
Apart from it's attractiveness because of that, it's also really worthy. It's very entertaining, easy to see,with very realistic scenes, many different rooms with different themes and the biggest and the world's most complete Tyranosaurus Rex. 

¿The best part? The price established is also a "suggestion". This means that, although they indicate the adequate price, you can pay whatever you want, starting from 1$. This is a great oportunnity no one should let go.

2. Compras:

Por supuesto que las compras entran en la lista de cualquiera que vaya a Estados Unidos, pero si sabes dónde comprar, ya no habrá quien os pare. 

Si no tenéis mucho tiempo y preferís no alejaros del centro, la mejor opción es ir a Century 21, cerca de Wall Trade Center. Son unos grandes almacenes con marcas famosas que funcionan como outlet. Ahí se pueden encontrar grandes chollos, y descuentos de hasta el 75% de descuento.

Otro sitio en el centro es el Macys. Se encuentra en la calle 34, y aunque no tienen precios tan bajos, pueden tener grandes ofertas y a los extranjeros nos descuentan el IVA del precio.

La mejor opción, si se tiene tiempo y ganas, es ir a Jersey Gardens, que se encuentran en Nueva Jersey. Se puede ir en bus por el precio de unos 10$ ida y vuelta. Si es un día de fin de semana, se puede usar uno de nuestros pequeños "trucos". Cerca del centro comercial, hay un Ikea, este, los fines de semana, cuenta con transporte gratuito desde Manhattan, la única pega es que el último de vuelta es a las 18:00

En este centro comercial se encuentran todas las grandes marcas a precios alucinantes, nosotras necesitamos un día entero, desde la apertura hasta el cierre a las 21:00 para sentir que ya habíamos terminado. 

2. Shopping:

Of course shopping is among the list of thing to do of anyone who goes to the States, but if you know where to buy, nobody will be able to stop you. 

If you don't have too much time and you prefer not to go out of town, the best option is Century21, close to World Trade Center. It's a store with different famous brands that works as an outlet. This way you can find great bargains  and discounts up to 75% off. 

An other place in the city center is Macys. It's located in 34th Street, and although their prices aren't as low, they normally have big offers and foreigners get the taxes off the prices. 

Brownnie- Ellen Stardust Diner

The best option, and if you have time and will, is going to Jersey Gardens, which is in New Jersey. You can go by bus for about 10$ round trip. If it's on the weekend, you can use one of our little "tricks".  Near to the mall, there is an Ikea, which, on these days, has free transport from Manhattan, the only disadvantage is that the last bus is at 18:00.

In this mall you can find all the big brands at incredible prices. We spent the whole day there, from the opening to the closing at 21:00 to feel that we were done. 

3. Restaurantes: 

Si os habéis arruinado de compras, no hay problema, podréis sobrevivir lo que os queda de tiempo a base de pizza. En Manhattan hay locales que venden pizza por tan solo 1$. Se encuentran prácticamente en cada esquina, así que tranquilos, si tenéis la maleta llena pero la cartera vacía, aun hay posibilidades de volver vivo a tu ciudad.

Si os habéis quedado con ganas de un musical de Broadway, pero no os lo podéis permitir, siempre podéis ir a Ellen Stardust Diner. Se trata de un restaurante que, a la vez de servir comida deliciosa y gigantesca comida americana, te sumerge en un musical. Los camareros son aspirantes a Broadway, o incluso algunos ya han hecho sus papeles, pero trabajan ahí hasta que consigan algo nuevo. (podéis ver un video del día que fuimos)

3. Restaurants: 

If you have spent all your money in shopping, there is no problem, you can survive the time you've left living on pizza. In Manhattan there are spots which sell pizza for just 1$. you find them on every corner, so keep calm, if you have your suitcase full but your wallet empty, there is still a possibility of to return alive to your city.

If you can't afford a Broadway musical, you can always go to Ellen Stardust Diner. It's a restaurant where, while they're serving you delicious and huge American food, you taken into a musical. The waiters are future Broadway singers, or even some have already done their lines, but are working there until they get something new. (check out the video we recorded when we were there)

4. El plan estrella: Partido de la NBA:

Si os gusta el baloncesto, no debéis perderos esta oportunidad. Si no os gusta, tampoco. No es solo el partido en sí, es el ambiente, el espectáculo, la comida... Cada tiempo muerto hay un espectáculo, un baile, animadoras, acrobacias...

Nosotras, tras mucho investigar y comparar, encontramos que Stubhub.com, una página de venta de entradas, era la más fiable. Cubría todas las garantías de que si se daba algún problema, ellos se hacían responsables de solucionarlo. Pagamos solo 50$ por unas entradas que valían 95$. El partido que elegimos fue un Nets Vs. Knicks en el Barclays Center en Brooklyn.
Compramos las entradas por la página y nos las enviaron por correo al hotel. Aun así fuimos una hora antes del partido por si se daba algún problema, cosa que no ocurrió. 

4.The star plan: NBA match: 

If you like basketball, you can't miss this. If you don't like it, either. It's not only about a basketball match, it's also about the environment, the show, the food...Each timeout there is a performance, a dance, cheerleaders, acrobats...

Barclays center

After long time of research and comparing, we found Stubhub.com, a page where tickets were sold, and which seemed to be the most trustful. It covered all guarantees that if there was any problem they were in charge os finding a solution. We paid only 50$ for tickets that were worth 95$. The match we chose was Knicks Vs. Nets in Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Our tickets were sent by post to our hotel. Anyway, we went one hour earlier to the stadium, in case there was any problem, something that didn't happen.
