Bueno, como han sido muchos los viajes que hemos hecho hasta hoy, no vamos a seguir un orden cronológico, sino que vamos a ir publicando entradas según creamos que os pueden ser mas útiles. La aventura de la que escribiremos hoy ocurrió en la isla de Creta, Grecia.
As we've already done a lot of trips up to today, we're not going to follow a chronological order, instead we are going to publish posts as we believe that they can be useful for you. The adventure we´re going to write about today happened in the island of Crete, Greece.
Transporte:
Lo mas impactante de este viaje fue lo poco que gastamos una vez ahí. El vuelo también nos salió baratísimo, fue desde el aeropuerto de Memmingen, cerca de Munich, Alemania. Aunque, al ser un destino que trabaja con Ryanair, seguro que encontráis algo bastante barato, con esta o con otra compañía. Hay dos aeropuertos en esta isla, nosotros aterrizamos en el de Heraklion (que es el que opera con Ryanair).Transport:
The most shocking of this holiday was the little amount of money we spent once we were there. The flight was also really cheap, it was from the Memmingen airport, near to Munich, Germany. Although, as it´s a destiny that works with Ryanair, you can probably find something very cheap, with this or an other company.There are two airports in this Island, we landed in Heraklion (which is the one that operates with Ryanair)
Alojamiento:
Hay que comentar que fuimos a principios de mayo, lo cual no llega a ser temporada alta, pero realmente vale la pena porque, al ser un destino mediterráneo, suele tener muy buen clima prácticamente todo el año, y es muy buena opción para hacer una escapadita. Cuando nos pusimos a buscar hoteles, no podíamos creernos los precios que vimos. Había hoteles muy decentes hasta por…¡3€ por noche!Decidimos que, por un poco más, podríamos conseguir algo mejor. Al final nos decantamos por un apartotel que valía 7€ por noche, pero se encontraba en primera linea de playa y tenía piscina. El hotel se llama Koukouras, en un pueblo llamado Katos Stalos.
La verdad es que no fuimos con las expectativas muy altas, pagando lo que habíamos pagado…Pero al llegar ahí nos sorprendió el buen servicio y las buenas instalaciones de este pequeño apartotel. Incluso nos dijeron que teníamos el servicio de tumbonas de la playa incluido en el precio.
Housing:
We have to point out that we went the first days of May, which wasn't High Seasons yet, but it´s really worth it because, as it´s a Mediterranean island, it normally has very good weather nearly all year, and it´s a really good option to go on a fast getaway. When we started looking for hotels, we couldn't believe the prices we saw. There were very decent hotels even for…3€ per night!We decided that, for a bit more, we could get something better. Finally we chose an apartment hotel that was 7€ per night, but was in beachfront and had a swimming pool. The hotel is called Koukouras, in a town called Katos Stalos.
The truth is, we didn't go with too high expectations, paying what we had paid…But when we got there, we were surprised because of the service and good facilities of this small hotel. We were told that we even had deckchair service at the beach included in the price.
Consejo:
Como nos salía todo tan rentable, decidimos que nos valía la pena alquilar un coche, cosa que os recomiendo hacer si venís a esta isla. Eso si, os advierto, los griegos aquí conducen como locos. Que no os sorprenda ver a tres en una moto, o motoristas por autovía sin casco…incluso han creado su propia “norma” en la que se adelantan libremente en línea continua…podréis observar que los coches se apartarán a la derecha para que los adelantes.
El coste desde viernes a martes fue de entre 150 y 200€. Eso si, no olvidéis que te piden una fianza bastante alta,la nuestra fue de 200€ (más de lo que nos valía el alquiler en sí). Nosotros no caímos en esto, y bueno, tuvimos que sobrevivir lo que nos quedaba de viaje con unos 50 euros cada uno…¡Pero no nos privamos de nada! ¿Que cómo? Ahora os lo contamos.
Tip:
As everything turned out so cheap, we decided that renting a car was a good choice, something I recommend if you´re coming to this island . But watch out, Greeks here drive like mad. Don´t be surprised if you see three people on a motorbike, or bickers on the main road with no helmet…they even have their own “rule” where people overtake each other on continuous line…you will be able to observe how cars will move to their right just for you to be able to overtake them.
The price from Friday to Wednesday was between 150 and 200€. But be aware, don´t forget that they ask for quite a high deposit, ours was 200€ (more than the actual rent). We didn´t think of that, so well, we had to survive the rest of the holiday with about 50 euros each…but we didn’t deprive ourselves from anything! How? We'll tell you now.

What to do there:
When we saw the prices of everything in the town, we saw everything very affordable…you could eat for about 5€ (including typical food)

Así que, si lo que buscáis es una escapada al frío y al estrés, este es un destino poco frecuentado pero una muy buena opción para algo sencillo, barato, y relajante. También tengo que añadir que un viaje depende mucho de las personas con las que lo hagas…y desde luego yo no pude tener mejor compañía. Espero que os sirvan nuestros consejos y que os aventuréis a hacer algo parecido.
So, if what you´re looking for is a getaway from cold and stress, this isn´t a very frequented destiny, but it´s a very good option for something simple, cheap and relaxing.
I also had to add that a trip depends a lot on who you´re doing it with…and, for sure, I couldn´t have had better companions.
