Snow and Mountains. INNSBRUCK

Hola otra vez. Hoy va a ser una entrada rápida, ya que andamos bastante liadas…¡Organizando nuestro proximo viaje! La semana que viene nos vamos a Nueva York, y queremos que todo salga perfecto. Os contaremos todo a la vuelta.

Pues bien, hoy os vamos a hablar de Innsbruck, un pequeño y encantador pueblo a los pies de los Alpes, en Austria.

Hello again. Today it’s jut going to be a fast post, as we are very busy…organizing our next trip! Next week we are going to New York, and we want everything to turn out perfect. We will tell you all about it when we’re back.

So, today, we are going to tell you about Innsbruck, a small but enchanting town by the Alps, in Austria.

Para llegar ahí, la mejor forma, si no estás muy cerca, es en avión. Innsbruck tiene su propio aeropuerto, pero es pequeño y no tiene tantos vuelos, además que suelen ser caros, por lo que la mejor opción es coger un vuelo a Munich, que suele costar en torno a los 100€ desde España. Una vez allí, desde Munich, hay varios trenes, aunque la opción más barata es ir en autobús. Vale unos 8€ el trayecto y tarda aproximadamente dos horas y 20 minutos. Hay muchos a lo largo del día. 

To get there, the best way, if you’re not too near, is by plane. Innsbruck has its own airport, but it’s small and doesn’t have too many flights, and the ones they have are normally expensive, so the best option is to get a flight to Munich, which normally costs 100€ from Spain. Once there, from Munich, there are a few trains, although the cheapest option is to go by bus. It’s around 8€ per journey and it takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes. There are plenty along the day. 

Una vez en Innsbruck, lo mejor es conseguir un mapa e ir paseando a ver lo más importante. El paisaje es increíble, el pueblo es precioso y de fondo se ven los alpes (si vais en invierno, estará todo nevado, como en las fotos que os enseñamos). Se puede ver todo perfectamente en un día, aunque si os gusta esquiar, también es buena opción aprovechar el viaje, ya que hay muchas opciones para esquiar alrededor. 

Para comer hay sobretodo sitios italianos, que son los que están mejor de precio, aunque también podréis encontrar restaurantes típicos, aunque son algo más caros (los domingos casi todo estará cerrado menos la mayoría de italianos)

Once you’re in Innsbruck, the best choice is to get a map and walk around and see the highlights. The landscape is incredible, and the town is lovely, with the Alps in the background ( if you go in winter, everything will be covered in snow, as you can see in our pictures). You can see everything perfectly in one day, although if you like skiing, a good option is too take advantage of the trip, as there are many choices to ski around. 

To eat, there are a lot of italian places, which are the cheapest, although you can also find traditional restaurants, although they are a bit more expensive (on Sundays nearly everything is closed, except for a lot of italians)

Making some noise. MUSIC FESTIVALS

¡Ya estamos de vuelta! A partir de ahora vamos a intentar actualizar todas las semanas y no dejaros abandonados. y hoy os traemos un tema diferente, un viaje aparte, otra experiencia que, si no lo habéis hecho ya, os recomendamos totalmente.

Hoy hablamos de festivales de música.

Este verano fuimos por primera vez a un festival, bueno, a dos.

Fuimos al Arenal Sound (Castellón) y al Dreambeach (Almería). Os contaremos qué nos gustó más y qué menos, las cosas que nos dimos cuenta que nos habrían venido muy bien, y, por supuesto, lo bien que lo pasamos, para ver si os animáis.

Dreambeach

 We are back! From now on we're going to try to update every week and not have abandon you. And to day we bring a different subject, a totally apart kind of trip, a different experience that, if you haven’t done yet, we absolutely recommend. 

Today we’re talking about music festivals.

This summer we went for the first time to a festival, well, to two.

We went to Arenal Sound (Castellón) and Dreambeach (Almería), both on the Spanish coast. We well tell you what we liked more and what less, what things we realized once there that would have come in handy to know, and, of course, all the fun we have, to encourage you to give it a try.

Alojamiento:

Arenal Sound

Pues bien, os hablaremos primero del camping del Arenal Sound. Podemos decir con seguridad que fue la parte más divertida del festival. Hay dos disponibles, el del Arenal y el de Malvarrosa. El primero está directamente al lado de la zona de conciertos, de la playa y del paseo marítimo, y nos costó, junto con la entrada al festival,unos 85€. El segundo está un poco más lejos, pero dispone de un trenecito que acerca a los campistas a la zona de conciertos, y este era más barato. Eso si, para sobrevivir, os damos los siguientes consejos importantísimos:

- Llegad pronto, con tiempo, antes de que abran el acceso. Es difícil encontrar buen sitio, sobretodo cuantos más seáis, y es importante conseguir sombra.

- Si tenéis la suerte de llegar antes de que se ocupen, intentad colocaros debajo de las lonas colocadas para dar sombra, pero cerca de los extremos, ya que si seáis muy centrados dentro se crea un efecto invernadero insoportable. Otra muy buena opción, que es la que usamos nosotros, es llevarse las telas o lonas uno mismo, e intentar buscar un sitio con árboles al rededor, y atar ahí la lona.

- Una cosa que cambia la comodidad totalmente, es llevar alguna tela o plástico para colocar en el suelo en torno a donde acampéis, tener que pisar el polvo cada vez que uno sale, mientras come,  o mientras se cambia, no es nada agradable.

- Si no cambian las cosas desde que fuimos nosotras, no os preocupéis por llevar bebida y comida de casa, todo lo que podéis encontrar ahí está a muy buen precio y hay variedad, tanto comida como bebida. No hace falta llevarse nada.

El camping estaba genial, acabas conociendo a un montón de gente, todo el mundo está dispuesto a conocer nueva gente y a veces lo pasábamos mejor en el ambiente del camping que en los conciertos. Os lo recomendamos totalmente, coger un alojamiento aparte (apartamento, hotel etc) le quita toda la diversión al festival. Lo vimos bastante limpio (para ser un camping), y, sobretodo, divertido. 

Arenal Sound 2014

Pasamos ahora a hablar del camping del Dreambeach. Este camping no nos gustó tanto. Son solo 3 noches, así que es soportable. Fue divertido porque fuimos muchos, pero el ambiente no era el mismo. Lo bueno es que había muchos árboles y por lo tanto mucha sobra, y eso en el desierto que es Almería, viene muy bien. También era más sucio. Solo puedo decir que con lo bien que lo pasamos en los conciertos, se puede aguantar bastante bien. La comida era más cara, y como solo se pasan dos días enteros ahí, no es mala opción llevar la comida y bebida ya, y no tener que comprar nada ahí (aparte de hielos o agua fría)

Después de esto decidimos que nos gustaría repetir, pero la próxima vez alquilando un hotel o apartamento. 

Housing:

First of all, you need to know that they are both in Spain on the Mediterranean coast. We’re going to start talking about the Arenal Sound camping. We can say surely that it was the best part of the festival. There are two campings available, the Arenal one, and the Malvarrosa one. The first one is directly next to the concert zone, the beach and the promenade, and it cost, with the entrance for the festival, about 85€ all together. The second one is  a bit further away, but it has a terrain-type train tag takes the campers to the concert zone, and this one was cheaper (around 60€). Anyway, to survive, we will give you the next pieces of advice which would have come in handy to us:

- Be there as soon as possible, with enough time before they open the access. It’s difficult to get a good place, even more if you are a big group, and it’s important to get a shade.

Arenal Sound

- If you are lucky enough to get there before all the shades are taken, try to settle under the canvas placed to provide shade, but clse to the edges, because if you get too close to the center, there a greenhouse effect is created and it’s unbearable. An other good option, and the one we used, is to take your own canvas cloth, try to find a place with trees nearby and ti it’s corners to them. 

- One thing that changes commodity completely, is to take a piece of cloth or plastic to cover the ground in between the tents, in your camping zone, so each time you have to step out of your tent, or change clothes or eat, you don’t have to step on the dust and sand. 

- If things don’t change since we went, don’t bother taking food or drinks from home, you can find everything there for a very good price and there is variety, both in food and drinks. You don’t have to take anything.

The camping is great, you end up meeting loads of people, and everyone is willing to get to know new people and sometimes we had more fun in the camping zone than at the concerts.  We totally recommend it, getting the housing apart (hotel, apartment etc) it looses all its fun away. We found it quite clean (for being a camping) and, specially, fun. 

Dreambeach 2014

Next we'll talk about the Dreambeach camping. We didn’t like this one so much. It’s only three night, so it’s bearable. It was fun because we were a big group, but the environment wasn’t the same. The good thing is that it was covered in trees, so there was a lot of shade, and that’s important in a dessert as Almería is. It was also dirtier. We can only say that all the fun we had at the concerts made the camping worth it. The food was a bit more expensive, and as you only spend two days there, it’s not a bad option to take your own food and drinks and not have to buy anything there (except for ice and cold water)

After the experience we thought we would want to go again, but next time renting a hotel o apartment. 

Los Festivales:

En el caso del Arenal Sound, los conciertos son de cantantes y grupos tipo indie, indie rock y música electrónica. Hay varios escenarios y, además, una piscina. Siempre hay donde hacer algo y divertirse.

Hay música 24 horas al día, si no es en un sitio es en otro, y siempre hay ambiente en la playa donde están todos el mundo tomando el sol, refrescándose o simplemente descansando de la noche anterior. A lo largo del paseo marítimo hay distintos chiringuitos vendiendo bebida, comida, cargando móviles…A nosotras nos gustó mucho, pero nos gustaron mucho más los conciertos de por la noche. Todo depende del gusto musical.

Del Dreambeach solo podemos decir que los conciertos fueron geniales. El recinto con los escenarios estaba muy bien organizado y había muchísimo ambiente, aparte de algunas atracciones y puestos de comida. La música es electrónica, así que hay que ir con energía. Había varios escenarios, y prácticamente ninguno descansaba. Había espacio de sobra para no agobiarse, aunque también el típico pelotón de delante donde están los más eufóricos. La música nos encantó, era imposible estar parado, con esa música es imposible evitar bailar. Fueron artistas como Snoop Dog (ahora llamado Snoop Lion), Armin Van Buren, Krewella...Fue increíble, eso si, acabas agotadísimo después de soltar toda esa adrenalina y de no parar de bailar, saltar y chillar. 

Festivals:

In the Arenal Sound festival, concerts were indie, indie rock and electronic music style. There are a few stages, and furthermore, a swimming pool. There is always somewhere to do something and have fun.

There’s music 24 hours a day, if it’s not in one place it’s in an other, and there’s always a good environment on the beach, where everyone is sunbathing, refreshing or simply relaxing after the night before. Along the promenade there are several beach bars selling drinks, food, charging mobile phones…We liked it a lot, although we preferred the concerts that took place at night, which were the electronic ones. It all depends on musical tastes.

About Dreambeach, we can only say that the concerts were incredible. The zone where the concerts take place is greatly organized and there was a very good atmosphere, apart from some amusement rides and food stalls. It’s all electronic music, so you need to go full of energy! There are a few stages, and nearly none made a break. There was enough space to not feel claustrophobic, but of course you always have the bunch of people at the front, where all the euphoric people are near to the stage. WE loved the music, it was impossible not to dance. There were artists such as Snoop Dog (now called Snoop Lion), Armin Van Buren, Krewella...It was incredible, but something is for sure, you end up exhausted after so much adrenaline released and nonstop dancing, yelling and jumping.  

Dreambeach

En conclusión, nosotras nos quedaríamos con el alojamiento del arenal sound, y los conciertos del Dreambeach. Eso si, creemos que cualquiera vale la pena.

Our conclussion: we would choose the Arenal Sound camping, but the concerts from the Dreambeach. Anyway, we believe both are worth it.

Cologne's 5th season. CARNIVAL

¡Hola de nuevo!

Sentimos no haber escrito en tanto tiempo, el final del semestre es muy complicado, como muchos sabréis.

Bueno, pero os aseguramos que la espera ha valido la pena, porque hoy os hablaremos de la mayor de nuestras aventuras. La más loca de todas, la más divertida, la más atrevida.

Os hablo de nuestro viaje a Colonia, Alemania.

Si, ya lo sabemos, Colonia no suena a mucha aventura ni a emoción y locura. Pero el cómo nos organizaos, fue bastante diferente a lo ordinario.(Papá, Mamá…si leéis esto, sabéis que sigo viva, así que no fue tan mala idea…)

Pues bien, lo primero que debéis saber es que el carnaval de Colonia es muy famoso, dura varios días y absolutamente todo el mundo, desde el conductor de autobús hasta el dependiente del McDonalds pasando por peluqueros, familias, taxistas…van disfrazados. Mires donde mires hay disfraces. La gente está por las calles festejando, yendo de pub a pub, hay también carpas, terrazas, bandas de música callejeras, espectáculos etc. 

Hello again! We are sorry that we haven’t written anything in some time, but the end of the semester is quite complicated, as many of you know. 

Well, we can assure that the wait has been worth it, because today we’ll tell you about the biggest of our adventures. The craziest one, the funniest one, the most daring one. We’re referring to our trip to Cologne, Germany.

Yes, we know, Cologne doesn’t sound like a big adventure or excitement and craziness, but how we organized it was quite different to ordinary. (Mom, dad…if you read this, you know I’m still alive, so it wasn’t such a bad idea…)

So, the first thing you need to know is that carnival at Cologne is really famous, it lasts a few days and absolutely everyone, from the bus driver up to the McDonalds workers, going through hairdressers, families, taxi drivers…are dressed up. Wherever you look there are costumes. People are all over the streets partying, going from one pub to an other one, there are also tents, terraces, street music bands, street shows etc.

Pues bien, nuestra intención era ir en bus y quedarnos en casa de una conocida de unos amigos (ellos se suponía que venían con nosotros)…Sin embargo, el mismo día del viaje, vimos que todo esto se descolocó. Esperamos hasta el último momento a coger los billetes de autobús para asegurarnos de quien venía. En cuestión de una diferencia de 3 minutos, se agotaron los billetes de autobús. No encontramos otro medio de transporte público rentable, y al final resultó que ninguno de nuestros amigos venían… por lo tanto ya no teníamos el alojamiento de su conocida. Así que tiramos de la solidaridad de otros aventureros (resumiendo: Blablacar y Couchsurfing)

So well, our intention was to go by bus and stay at a well known of some friends house (these were supposed to come with us)…However, the same day of the trip, we saw that everything got messed up. We had waited to the last minute to get the bus tickets because we wanted to make sure of who was coming. In a matter of three minute difference, all tickets were sold out. We couldn’t find an other public mean of transport which was affordable, and it turned out that at the end none of our friends were coming, so we didn’t have their friends housing. 

Finally we appealed to other adventurers solidarity (summing up: Blablacar and Couchsurfing)

Transporte:

Para empezar, fuimos en Blablacar. Para quienes no lo conozcáis, es una página que conecta a conductores que van a hacer un trayecto y tienen asientos de sobra en el coche, con gente que quiere hacer ese mismo recorrido. Así se comparten los gastos de gasolina, y además conoces a mucha gente abierta y amable.

Salió por 60€ ida y vuelta desde Munich. 

El problema fue que lo hicimos muy rápido y a última hora, así que nos vimos corriendo hacia el punto donde habíamos quedado con un conductor del que no sabíamos casi nada. Cuando llegamos ahí, nos encontramos a dos individuos de procedencia desconocida, un Gran Cherokee enorme con las lunas tintadas, y un poquito de miedo. Nos planteamos durante unos segundos si era buena idea…Pero llegamos a la conclusión de que TENÍAMOS que ir a Colonia, y que si no vivíamos estas aventuras ahora, ¿Cuándo lo haríamos?

Así que pocos minutos después estábamos en un coche desconocido con música increíble por las rápidas carreteras de Alemania (Eso si, no sin antes mandarle la matrícula a todos nuestros amigos, por si acaso)

Ni os imagináis la sensación de ir a 280km/h en carreteras gigantes entre campos verdes y con esa increíble música, viendo que la gran aventura empieza bien (En Alemania ciertas carreteras no tienen límite de velocidad). 

Tan bien nos fue, que decidimos quedar con ellos para volver a Munich al acabar el finde.

Transport:

To start off, we went with Blablacar. For whoever doesn’t know it, it’s a web page that connects drivers that are going to do a route and have spare seats in their cars, with people who want to do the same route. So this way, they all share petrol costs, and you also get to know a lot of open minded and friendly people.

It turned out for 60€ go and return form Munich. 

The problem was that we were in such a hurry and organizing at last minute, that we found ourselves running towards the meeting point of whom we didn’t know anything. When we got there, we found two subjects with unknown origin, a huge Gran Cherokee with tinted windows and a bit of  fear…But we got to the conclusion that we HAD TO go to Cologne, and that if we didn’t live these adventures now…when would we?

So a few inures after we were inside the car of these two strangers with incredible music and on the fast German roads (But of course, not before sending all our friends the license plate number , just in case)

You can’t even imagine the feeling of going 280 Km/h on huge roads between green fields and with that incredible music, seeing that the big adventure started well (Certain roads in Germany don’t have speed limit)

It went so well that we decided to go back together to Munich when the weekend had ended. 

Alojamiento:

Vale, más aventuras. Al no tener el alojamiento de la conocida de nuestros amigos, tuvimos que tirar de otras opciones. ¿Conocéis Couch Surfing? quien no…debería. Es una experiencia genial, barata, emocionante, divertida…Consiste en una red social en la que hay gente que ofrece sitio en su casa para alojarse, a cambio de un poco de conversación e intercambiar historias; y gente que busca alojamiento barato y conocer a gente del lugar. Tuvimos que preguntar a varios, ya que durante carnaval hay mucha demanda. Al final tuvimos suerte y encontramos a un chico genial al que estamos muy agradecidas. Nos contestó enseguida que tenía sitio de sobra, que le apetecería un montón tener compañía ese finde, que quería practicar su español, que su comida favorita del día es el desayuno y que más nos valía llegar con hambre porque nos llevaría a cenar a una pizzería nada más llegar.

Y fue incluso mejor que lo esperado. 

Tal como dijo, nada más llegar nos llevó a una pizzeria en la que cenamos una de las mejores pizzas que habíamos probado. Su compañero de piso se había ido ese fin de semana, así que nos dejó su propia habitación para nosotras solas. Después nos dijo que si preferíamos quedarnos a descansar, salir por nuestra cuenta, o salir con él y su banda.  Porque si, además, toca en una banda con otros chicos, una banda que poco a poco se está haciendo bastante famosa en Alemania, os recomiendo echarle un vistazo porque son realmente buenos. A la mañana siguiente, nosotras nos despertamos bastante tarde…Sin embargo, él llevaba tiempo despierto, y, al ver que nos habíamos levantado, lo primero que nos dijo fue: Espero que queráis desayunar.

Nos preparó huevos revueltos con mil especias, tomate, queso, jamón…Tostadas, fruta, cereales, galletas, zumo…Teníamos una mesa llena de cosas donde elegir que desayunar.

Él dijo que ese día se tenía que quedar en casa a trabajar en cosas de la uni, así que nos dejó la llave y nos deseó un buen día. 

El día que tocaba volver, sentimos que se nos había pasado el tiempo volando, y que habíamos estado de los más cómodas. …pero todo tiene su fin. Despúes de despedidas y un abrazo piña, dejamos Colonia. 

Housing:

Okay, more adventures. As we said before, we ended up not having a housing, so we had to appeal to other options. Do you know Couch Surfing? whoever doesn’t… should. It’s a great, cheap, exciting and fun experience. It’s a social network where there’s people who offer a place at their home in exchange of some conversation and to share stories; and people who are looking for a cheap housing and know people from the city. We had to ask a few, as during carnival there’s a big demand. Finally we were lucky and found this great boy who we’re very thankful to. He answered us immediately, saying he had a place for us, that he would love having visit that weekend, that he wanted to practice his spanish, that his favorite food of the day was breakfast and that he hoped we were hungry because as soon as we got there he was going to take us to a pizza place. 

And it was even better than we expected.

As he told us, when we got there, he took us to a pizza restaurant where we ate one of the best pizzas we have ever tried. His flat mate had gone away that weekend, so he let us his own room for ourselves. After, he asked if we preferred going out alone, staying home and having a rest, or going out with him and his band. Because, yes, in addition he plays in a band with some other boys, a group that little by little is getting famous in Germany, i recommend you to have a look,  because they are really good. The next morning, we woke up quite late…but he had been up for some hours, and as soon as he saw that we were awake he said: I hope you feel like breakfast.

He prepared scrambled eggs with so many herbs and tomato, chess, ham…Toast, fruit, cereal, juice, biscuits…We had a table full of food where to choose.

He said that day he had to stay home doing stuff for university, so he gave us a key and wished us a nice day.

The next day was the morning we had to leave. We felt it had gone by so fast, and that we had been so confortable there..but everything comes to an end. After goodbye and a group hug, we left Cologne.

Que hacer en Colonia en Carnaval:

La primera noche, cuando nos dijo que eligiésemos que preferíamos hacer, decidimos salir con él y sus amigos del grupo. Y claro, no podía ser menos, debíamos salir disfrazados. Nos presentó a todo su grupo, se quedó con nosotras incluso cuando sus amigos ya se habían ido y esperó a que quisiéramos volver para no dejar que volviéramos solas.

El segundo día lo pasamos por las calles de Colonia, había un ambientado increíble y todo el mundo armando jaleo. Fue una experiencia genial, gente de todos los países, incluidos muchísimos españoles. Al final volvimos a casa sobre la 1:30 de la madrugada, después de 11 horas seguidas celebrando carnaval. 

No os puedo dar otra mejor recomendación que: id, perdeos, disfrutad. Da igual los sitios que os pueda recomendar, porque es tanto caos y vas conociendo a tanta gente, que al final, te dejas llevar por la corriente.

What to do in Cologne in Carnival:

So, the first night, when he told us to choose what we preferred to do, we chose to go out with him and his friends from the group. And, of course, as it should be, we had to get dressed up. We had a great time, he introduced us to all his group, he stayed with us even when his friends had left, and waited to come with us home whenever we felt like going back.

We spent the second day on the streets of Cologne, there was a great atmosphere, and everyone making a fuss. It was a great experience, people from all around the world, including a lot of spanish. At the end we went back home at 1:30, after 11 consecutive hours celebrating carnival. 

I can’t give you better advice than: go, get lost, and enjoy. Giving you a list of places to go to wouldn’t make any sense because it’s such a big chaos and you get to meet so many people, that you end up following the crowd. 

Pues bien, esta fue nuestra mayor aventura hasta el momento. Innovando con Blablacar, innovando con Couch Surfing… Es algo en que, al principio, cuesta tomar la decisión, atreverse…pero realmente vale la pena. Eso si, siempre con cuidado y precaución. 

Esperamos que decidáis probar estos nuevos métodos, son una gran oportunidad de ahorrar y de conocer nueva gente

So, this was our biggest adventure up to the moment. Innovating with Blablacar, innovating with Couch Surfing…It’s something in which, at first, is difficult to make the decision, to dare…but it’s really worth it. But precaution and care are important.
